Did you know that if you take your laptop into Starbucks and connect to the internet
using an unencrypted connection, everything you transmit or receive can be seen by
the guy in the next booth if he is running the right spyware software?
Even worse, any files or drives you have shared may be visible to him, he may simply
copy your MyDocuments folder from your PC to his.
Do you use a wireless local area network at your business? If so, is it encrypted?
If not, your business is vulnerable to the same type of spying. It's one thing
to have someone hack your credit card, you just call up American Express and get
a new card. But what happens if someone finds your customers' information
and contacts them? You might lose customers and never know why.
Of course these are extreme examples, most people who stumble upon your unencrypted
wireless network "merely" want to use your internet connection without paying for
their own. But in so doing, they slow down your network and may compromise
your security without actually intending to.
Do you understand the difference between 802.11b and 802.11g? How about .11n
or .11y? How does this compare to 100Mbit Ethernet or Gbit Ethernet?
What is the difference between WPA and WPAA?
Now you know reasons to use a professional company to set up your business's network. Please, don't
do it yourself or trust your security to an amateur who works for a store that sells washing
machines. At PCS, we don't sell washing machines, Hollywood movies or office furniture. We sell:
